Any thoughts on this news item? biz.yahoo.com ECI in talks to buy Orckit -paper TEL AVIV, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Israel's ECI Telecom is in talks to acquire control of Orkit Communications Ltd, another Israeli company, the Maariv newspaper reported on Tuesday. Both companies make DSL (digital subscriber line) solutions, which allow high-speed transmission of data, voice and video. A spokeswoman for ECI declined to comment on the report. An industry source who asked not to be named said ECI had held preliminary talks with Orckit. ``But these talks were no different than talks held with various other companies,'' the source said. Orckit's Nasdaq-traded shares have taken a beating and are currently trading at $7-11/16, just $1 above their 52-week low and well under the 52-week high of $92-3/4. Orckit has a market cap of $150.5 million compared with $2.3 billion for ECI. Perry P.
