It's not quite as crazy as all that. Corvis' president is Dr. David Huber, who started Ciena, and then cashed out and started Corvis. It makes all-optical network equipment. I know that doesn't sound like much, but to give you an idea how revolutionary the technology is, it was used in a demo last month to transmit 10 gig of information 4000 km without electrical regeneration, the transmission did not need to be boosted en route.

One analyst is projecting that public network bandwidth consumption will increase 2000% from 1998 to 2000. So while this has elements of a mania, there is a basis for it, very large future income streams of cold hard cash. Anyway, the stock is now trading at about half its high.
