SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Royal Philips Electronics NV's (PHG) Philips
Semiconductors unit signed a code division multiple access, or CDMA,
agreement with Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM).

In a press release Tuesday, Philips Semiconductors said the agreement
reinstates and expands a CDMA agreement between Qualcomm and
VLSI Technology Inc., which Philips acquired in 1999.

The agreement covers previous VLSI Technology and current and future
Philips Semiconductors activity, without interruption.

Philips will be able to license Qualcomm's CDMA patent portfolio
covering CDMA and third-generation CDMA standards, enabling Philips
to develop CDMA technology for wireless phones, Internet access
devices and portable data entry tools.
