Goldman Renews Tech Sector Bullishness
dailynews.yahoo.com
``We aren't calling the bottom at this point,'' Goldman computer and storage analyst Laura Conigliaro said, noting that the sector would have to digest third-quarter earnings reports during October before posting new gains.``We will be more positive by November or December, perhaps a lot more positive,'' she said.

As I see it, margin call pressure and stop limit orders have actually snowballed the decline that we are presently seeing. It's possible that programmed trading from the big houses & fundies are directing the money flow.

As trillions are lost, the capacity to recoup is proportionally reduced. News driven stocks and sectors get the lion's share volume and the rest of the market crumbles. The DOW has performed well overall despite the fact that blue chips have not really done anything extraordinary in terms of earnings or growth. It's the notion of respite from the tech sell-off that simultaneously perpetuates it. Investors are their own worse enemy in a bear market. Irony.

Got no problem with adjusting one's outlook on the basis of events... Heck, I've been pretty bearish the last few months myself... Just trying to instigate a sentiment washout, I suppose. A bit of an updraft would suit me, as at just this moment I happen to have a fairly sizable and profitable long position in a tech company (NOT b2b or enterprise software, btw) that I'm hoping will autopilot to a nice landing today, tomorrow, probably not much later than that unless yesterday really was a bottom. Didn't expect to be in this position--that's what system trading'll do to you sometimes--so I'm a bit nervous, I guess. Apologies if I've been over-posting...
