Yes, I realize that reformulating methane into the pentane-octane liquids of the paraffin series is different from making methanol, but methanol is a liquid and can be used to power automobiles, and it's already made in large quantities from natural gas using familiar technologies.

Methanol could also be shipped in tankers without refrigeration and pressure, after being manufactured from excess natural gas in regions that can't use it.
