Actually, SUNW followers would be well advised to read today's IBM announcements carefully. In addition to a rationalized pricing and branding model, the key technology introduced today is IBM's long-awaited 64-bit upgrade to its flagship S/390 architecture (now known as the z/Architecture). IBM is still very much a force to be reckoned with in the enterprise space and I expect them to get very aggressive with this product set.

Between W2K encroaching from below and IBM's z/A pressing from above the margin shoe may begin to pinch a bit over the next year. But of course in a competition between SUNW vs. rest-of-world, RoW is always the underdog. :)
