Vertex Selling Software In Asia
Blocking 'Harmful' Web Sites

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Vertex Link Corp., a personal
computer wholesaler (9816), has started marketing in
Asia software that blocks access to Web sites
containing pornographic, violent and other content
deemed harmful.

The firm has obtained exclusive sales rights in Asia for
SmartFilter and Cyfin software, developed separately by
two U.S. firms.

SmartFilter is designed to block designated Web sites,
while Cyfin monitors and reports what kind of Web sites
Internet users are accessing. The software is compatible
not only with English-language Web sites but also with
Japanese and Chinese Web sites.

Demand for such software is growing, especially from
large corporations and public agencies. Behind Vertex's
foray into the Asian market is a sharp increase in Internet
use in the region.

The marketing of the software in Southeast Asia is
conducted jointly with a Singaporean subsidiary of NEC
Corp. (6701), and sales in China are made through a
local company.

The company targets first-year sales of 3 million dollars
from the software.
