Sounds plausible: a payoff by MSFT aimed at eliminating one more potentially nasty lawsuit.
I always wondered why Corel kept the lid on about their experiences with the monopolist. I suppose Corel can tell us some stories on the subject!

Moreover, Personally I think MS has interest in keeping a lame duck as 'competitor'.
MS needs a would-be competitor as a disguise for their monopoly.

Well, I sold today with a 60% profit after 6 weeks.

I think the only way the merger resurfaces is if Marlen holds an auction of her evening wear and donates the proceeds to the company treasury.
