Xybernaut, Bell Canada, IBM Canada To Offer Wearable PCs
(Dow Jones Online News, 10/3/2000 12:30)

FAIRFAX, Va. -(Dow Jones)- Bell Canada (BC.A), Xybernaut Corp. (XYBR) and International Business Machines Corp.'s (IBM) IBM Canada Ltd. unit launched a large scale trial of wearable computers.

In a press release Tuesday, Bell Canada said a group of its field service technicians will be outfitted with a Mobile Assistant IV wearable PC, a wireless computing and communications device that can connect the user to the Internet and make voice calls.

If the trial is successful, Bell Canada plans to deploy the Mobile Assistant among its field technicians. Currently, most of the company's 5,000 technicians use IBM Thinkpad laptops to access data from remote locations.
