M. Zero: While I agree this is a grinding decline, I take issue with your analogy to the 70s. Nothing comparable at all, really. The entire economic climate is different. Company fundamentals are different. Inflation, government spending, employment, profit growth, productivity -- you name it. As far as the market itself is concerned, the only correlation between now and the 1973-4 period is that share prices are declining. But you cannot have the kind of grinding long term bear market a la the 70s with the kind of broadbased investment that underpins the activities of short-term traders today. I am quite sure we are in a corrective phase within the long-running, post-70s bull market. Period. That said, 3000 looks like the basement. M2

If the fed continues to be concerned about inflation, then growth should continue to be strong going forward. Not so many earnings shortfalls IMO.

PCLN, X, INTC, and other warnings each have a story, but not one of a major economic slowing IMO.

I'm following the fed's lead and will accumulate.

Today AMAT @ 52 1/4, tomorrow ???

Good luck to all....

Keith........

PS... Join us on the AWRE thread. Their earnings will double this...... AWRE is at the top of the food chain of DSL.

Peace, why haven't you introduced AWRE as an IDEA for the "Idea of the day" board?

Darn it GZ,

As much as I hold your opinions in high regard. I certainly don't want you to start sounding like a girl friend who thinks she knows what you want to hear.

As bad as all this is....and I have plenty of indicators telling me so, I still, grudgingly resist them...nibbling on certain stocks.

To date, you, OJ have not been wrong in your market reads..
I am struggling with many economic factors but am not going to change my points of entry....as a market is made on investors not short traders....bla bla....I'm trusting in basic economic factors to move my emerging portfolio forward....I think we are currently going through the roughest spot of the year for investors...and expect some relief w/i the next 7/14 days....oh the hard times people w/ little knowledge go though...

the market reaction to the FED was a little troubling....I still look at buying opportunities...tonight may be key during the Presidential debates, as how the market interprets the candidates....tomorrow should be very telling about the reaction and I will be paying very close attention.

who said this was easy? OJ?

JJ

Unless we break down in a big way, then tomorrow is an intermediate turn-around pattern until after expiration!

It might be quite an explosive rally starting sometime late tomorrow or early Thursday!

We need to build a bigger right shoulder???

Or maybe not.

BWDIK?
