I've been in Savannah in mid-July and what I experienced there was nothing like St. Louis. Remember that St. Louis is located on the Mississippi River valley, which has strong southerly winds direct from Gulf of Mexico up its length at least during the summer months. I guess that the climate of the Mississippi River valley is somewhat unique compared to the rest of the great plains.
