i think there has been trouble behind the scenes for quite some time now. just look at the wild swings in credit spreads this year and the panicky dumping of junk bonds...

i think there's probably more to the constant liquidity injections than is being let on...i also thought the Chase/Morgan merger looked very suspicious, especially as Morgan's derivative head honcho resigned concurrently. it seems this merger was not really subject to negotiations...Deutsche pulled out (for reasons unknown, but open to lots of speculation), and CMB swallowed Morgan five minutes later. didn't smell right to me.

also, the money market funds are chock full with questionable asset backeds that are all guaranteed by some big institution or another. there could be loads of trouble we don't know anything about. yet.
