G,

No one needs a 1000+MHz Pentium on their PC.<

In a couple of years this will be cited along with "the world can absorb maybe 5 computers".

Let's not forget:

"Everything that can be invented has been invented."
-Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, US Office of patents, 1899

"I think there is a world market for about 5 computers."
-Thomas Watson, Chairman of IBM, 1943

"There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in their home."
-Ken Olsen, DEC 1977

re: No one needs a 1000+MHz Pentium on their PC:

I am not a luddite or minimalist.
This is the 4th or 5th home PC I've bought, and I've always (up till now), bought the fastest/newest/priciest Intel CPU.

My latest PC has:
21" monitor
a graphics chip with more memory in it than the whole computer 2 PCs ago
ethernet card
cable modem
the most expensive sound card and speakers Dell offers
256MB RDRAM

But, my point is, I didn't get the latest/most expensive from Wintel.
