I used to do a lot more fundamental research and analysis. I went so far as to spend time participating in conference calls, talking with CFOs and CEOS and occasionally visiting companies. Compared to developing your own confidence with technical analysis and a general pulse of market sentiment and conditions, all the fundamental stuff is flawed imo. Just when you think you've got it all right, the company surprises you. For example, I once noticed some deterioration in the indicators on a company I owned so I called the CFO whom I had met with. She assured me that the quarter was going ok so I held the stock. Two days latter the company dropped the bombshell: they warned that earnings wouldn't be met and the stock plummeted before I could exit. If I had ignored what I "knew" about the company and their self-serving mouthpiece I would have been out much earlier. Don't trust other posters either (even me!) - just take in others opinions and ask yourself "what the hell is that! How does that really effect what the stock will do?" Most the B.S. on the Internet isn't worth the energy to read it unless you are extremely bored.
