I think we should refer to it as the Seagate Management/Silver Lake Partners Enrichment Merger. Given all the changes in the DD business, the buyout would have become the deal of the century even if it wasn't already the steal of the century. -Z

RE-MXTR pays 1.52 for each HDD share in MXTR/HDD merger. I don't see why the exchange ratio is not close to 1 instead of 1.52.

Over the last year, HDD/MXTR traded at a price ratio of close to 1.

Larry

Disclaimer--I hold a position in MXTR, so I'm biased. But I also feel like I'm getting shafted.

Paul,

The offer confirms what I have thought all along about HDD -- that it is a screaming buy. Based on MXTR ~ 7.5, the deal values HDD at 11.25, which is cheap for a company with $7.40 per share in cash at this point in the disk drive cycle. I think the consolidation trend is healthy for the industry but I believe HDD deserves a richer premium. I hope that it gets it, perhaps through MXTR getting back into the double digits.
