He did what he needed to do but I'd say the exchange on substance was pretty equal, maybe a slight edge to Gore. I think Bush really scored on SS, especially the 2% remark. I think Bush came across as much more likable, more human and I think that makes a difference in a close election. Overall, I'd say it a net positve for Bush but I'll wait to see how the undecideds move before I get excited. JLA

"Bush did OK. He showed he can handle the job".......are you kidding me. He hasn't been a working governor in Texas for the last year........an absentee landlord. Bush couldn't even respond to Lehrer's questions without flustering and guffawing.
