For the past few days, I have been worrying and trying to find out just what is going down in the small country of Belize where I have spent a lot of time over the past 23 years. Since I just found out this morning after sweating it out for more than 72 hours about the fate of my island, my house, and the lives of my friends that although my house and they have SURVIVED, the people of the Caye Cauker have been DESIMATED and 1/3 of those are now HOMELESS. The little spit of sand sustained 110+ mile per hour winds and rain for more than 15 HOURS! Can you imagine????????? No lights, no nothing, no communications, and they are still completely without water, lights, or phones. And they are looking at being without power for the next MONTH at best! I was LUCKY! VERY LUCKY...and now I ask YOU...many of whom I have known for years now...to contribute$$$$$$$$$$$ to this fund. The Embassy of Belize to the US in Washington, DC has opened a account to start accepting donations in conjunction with the relief effort. The account is at Riggs Bank, Dupont Circle, Washington, DC in the name: Embassy of Belize Hurricane Keith. Currently, the Embassy is accepting only check donations. They can be sent to: Ambassador Lisa M. Shoman Embassy of Belize 2535 Massachusetts Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20008 Either that or the RED CROSS in the name of BELIZE I thank you for your time and hopefully your generousity.
