GV, >>I think that the current inflation is real, and at 4% it is close to the Fed's alarm. The Fed is showing legitimate worry.

You mentioned the 70s. We had double digit inflation back then. Also, I thought we were running closer to 3% inflation now, although measuring it isn't an exact science, I know. Back to the 70s, continuing cold war, Watergate, oil embargo, gas lines. This is Valhalla now in comparison. Oh, productivity now best ever.

Dear GV: OT OT
Bush is admittedly a CONSENSUS builder, IMHO that is the SINGLE most important thing necessary for a successful foreign policy, I am tired of being the watchdog of the world, its time everyone pitches in. Secondly, have you ever heard of Cheney?? If Bush needs any advice he certainly has a man capable of giving it. JDN

"he just isn't able to handle the presidency yet."

Or ever. With all due respect, maybe you guys could take this presidential conversation off thread. No offense given.

*OT* My apologies to the thread for unplugging the OT dike..last OT from me...

BTW- If BLS understates inflation, then odds are they are also understating productivity as well....but I agree with the general premise (BLS really has no idea what's going on..)...Trying to measure a service and high-tech economy (and increasingly so), while using tools designed to measure a manufacturing (low-tech and other, )/agrarian economy leaves them wide open to criticism..
