Here are his comments about Q1 and Q2: Q1 Comments ***************** Gerard Klauer Mattison - David Bailey ``Compaq is making incremental steps to improve its business line,'' said Gerard Klauer Mattison analyst David Bailey. ``But they really have several hurdles going forward.'' Bailey pointed out that the company's two largest divisions, the enterprise systems group and the commercial PC group, had lower revenue than a year ago. ``Part of this is due to Y2K, but, for example, there doesn't seem to be any huge demand for (Compaq's) Alpha servers,'' he said. ``Revenue was up one percent, and earnings were flat,'' he said. ``The only group really growing is the consumer segment, and they have the lowest margins. **************** Q2 Comments **************** GKM - Analyst David Bailey ``It was a mixed quarter,'' said Gerard Klauer Mattison analyst David Bailey, saying the company did not perform well in storage and services, both considered quickly expanding markets with the explosion of business on the Web. ``IBM (NYSE:IBM - news) and Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE:HWP - news) articulated an e-commerce strategy over a year ago, and Compaq has just started to align themselves with an e-commerce strategy in services,'' he said. ****************
