Actually the article is wrong and unfactual. GreenPoint now does 5% down no doc loans and just dropped their underwriting standards. They should have asked a mortgage expert like myself before writing that article. I recently did a no doc loan at 90%ltv for a 82 year old lady on a 150,000 appraisal and since she had no mortgage the cash out was the total $135,000. She could not afford pay the loan herself but her son intends to make the payments. This example should be enough to show you that if the economy turns this will spell trouble. Just a few days ago GreenPoint dropped their FICO scores which means they will do this type of loan with even greater risk.

Minnesota Among Top Ten States Leading Manufactured Homes Sales Growth

According to the latest Manufacturing Report, current manufactured home sales (SALES) in the state are exceeding last year's numbers by more than 11 percent, putting Minnesota in the sixth leading position..
Nationally, manufactured homes account for close to one third of all new single-family housing starts.
While Minnesota falls slightly behind the average, sales figures in 2000 indicate the state is rapidly closing the gap.
"The report validates a trend we've been aware of for some time," said Minnesota Manufactured Housing Association executive vice president Mark J. Brunner.
"The upward trend of manufactured home sales is clearly being driven by enhancements to the quality, size and design options of today's homes, as well as their overall affordability." Brunner added that "manufactured homes are meeting an important need as a solution to Minnesota's affordable housing crisis. Increasingly, home buyers of all income brackets are recognizing the advantages of a manufactured home."
Manufactured homes, or "factory-built" homes, are built with the same materials as traditional site-built homes, with the advantage of a secured, climatically controlled construction environment. Factory built homes also meet the rigorous standards of the Minnesota State Building Code and the Federal Building Code. Homes are inspected and certified throughout the construction process by a third-party inspection agency.
