He moved to Texas a few years ago.<<< I believe--correct me if I'm wrong--Cheney moved to Texas in 1993. He registered to vote in Texas in 1995. Five years, I think, is sufficient time to learn state politics--particularly if you're an ole' pro political junkie like Cheney was (is?). Hey, the guy should have voted. Don't you agree? >>>His children are grown.<<< Curiously, do they vote? >>>Its my understanding that all the elctions he did not vote in were in Texas.<<< So? Americans can vote anywhere they reside. To the politically astute absentee ballots are available. Are you implying Cheney is not politically astute? Hey, let's just compliment him for taking the time to register. Is that what you'd like to do? >>>I can see how he might not feel motivated.<<< You wouldn't happen to be a Republican apologist, would ya? >>>But after all, voting or not voting is a choice we are all free to make in a free country.<<< And I'll defend the right of anyone to choose not to vote. However, on a scale of respect and within our communities, I'd say voting is a darn right proper thing to do. You're not forgetting all those civic duty commercials where it's implied citizens should learn about their respective candidates and vote on election day, are you? >>>Only someone desparate for something to criticize would pick up on this fact.<<< Whoa, jlallen, let's clarify what we're discussing here. I'm criticizing Dick Cheney because he failed to vote in 14 of the past 16 elections: two presidential primaries, two state elections and two state run-off elections (forget 'bout the local stuff--but should we?). And you're telling me I'm desperate for criticism. I assure you--and you know this as fact--had a Democratic vice presidential nominee not voted 14 out of 16 recent elections and were asking for your vote, you'd ridiculue the individual. Wouldn't ya! And what's odd here is that now Cheney is asking folks to vote for him? >>>I personally wish that Al Gore, as VP under Clinton, hadn't made that tiebreaking vote in the Senate to increase taxes on SS income for seniors, but it was his choice after all. JLA <<< What can you tell us about the specifics of that legislation?
