your goodwill is not questioned. But, as a shareholder of a major American corporation, it is and was not unreasonable to believe a CEO who makes two appearances on two difference financial programs making statements which were in direct response to questions posed by a commentator about how dell could not be feeling the impact of a european slowdown in light of intel's news. he was asked this repeatedly. he said, in no uncertain words, dell was not experiencing a slowdown in europe. that, obviously was false.

Now, as for my use of November options rather than Leaps. That was a deliberate decision. First, November gives me plenty of time to reap any benefits, if any, on the news of the spinoff and any developments in Korea or China. Moving out one more month usually only costs about 2 points. By using November series options, I was able to sell my leaps and double up on my position when qcom was in the upper 50s. So far, a good decision. If there is a delay in the announcement of spinco, its initial offering price, korea or china, or now SBC, then I can roll-out to december without much penalty. Taxes are of no consequence because this is in my IRA account.

I should not be blamed for believing him. he should be blamed for either lying or not knowing what the heck is going on in his own company. I believe the latter is the case and I believe that is why DELL has failed to keep up with its greatness of the past. Michael just doesn't care anymore and he got careless with his words. Careless enough to cost thousands of shareholders thousands of dollars. I am sure that I was not the only one comforted by Michael's words.

I, for one, believe that a watched pot does not boil. So in order to help everyone out, I went and played golf at noon. <VBG>

Admittedly, I checked quote.com immediately upon my return to find a nice breakout.

THAT WAS GREAT!!

IMHO, there is a tremendous possibility of a soon strong Q move for all of the reasons that everyone here already knows.

Then FWIW I remembered an option newsletter that I subscribe to had listed Q as "the play of the day" for today.

Just another viewpoint. More and more folks are connecting the dots on this stock.

Play of the Day - Call, Tuesday, 10/03/2000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QCOM - Qualcomm Inc $72.50 +1.19 (+1.25 this week)

Qualcomm develops and manufactures communications technologies and products. It's best known for its CDMA (code division multiple access) technology which is the industry standard for mobile communications. This technology is used in cellular phones, wireless telephone system equipment, and satellite ground stations. In addition, Qualcomm provides the trucking industry with a monitoring system called OnmiTRACS and is currently in a joint venture to develop a low-earth-orbit satellite communication system called Globalstar. They are also the #2 supplier of digital cell phones following Nokia.

Most Recent Write-Up

While the NASDAQ radically veered from its course, QCOM went back on track today! A bullish ascent off the supportive 5 & 10 DMAs coupled with an unwavering push through the resistance at $75 restored our confidence that QCOM is destined to run up. Last Monday Wu Jichuan, head of China's Ministry of Information Industry, announced that China is allowing its telecom companies to choose which CDMA standard they want to use. So one thing stands clear, Qualcomm will get a piece of the Chinese market no matter which standard is used because of CDMA royalties. This good news may be just the catalyst to drive up QCOM's share price over the near-term, especially with earnings approaching on November 2nd. After today's bloodbath, it's clear that near-term support at $72 and $73 is established. However, in this fearful market and it being October and all, err on the side of caution. A conservative entry into this call could be taken on a break above $75 with strong volume. More aggressive entries can be attained on bounces from the $71 - $71.50 area. But keep stops in place no matter what. Traders are selling into strength and QCOM could easily turn on a dime. In other news, the new Japanese telecom giant KDDI announced it plans to launch the world's fastest mobile phone-based data service. They will use Qualcomm's high data rate technology, which is 75 times faster than regular phone lines.

Comments

QCOM held tight as the NASDAQ violated key support and finished on the low of the day. Trading in QCOM over the past two weeks has built an ascending wedge in the $71 to $75 range. It continues to higher lows and is coiling like a spring. Any relief in the NASDAQ would certainly give QCOM a welcomed boost. We're looking for this coiling spring to burst and any strong volume break over $75.56 would warrant entry. Given the recent selling, utilize stop losses.
