"All I want is a growth of 10% in MSFT's PC desktop biz, 30% in enterprise sw/, 60% in consumer s/w; 400% in internet JV investments"

Well good luck to you then! I find those numbers wildly optimistic, but hey ya gotta dream.

As far as the Internet Joint Venture investments, does MSFT's $0.9B AT&T investment loss fall into that category? How about all of those other cable companies that MSFT strategically paid to ramp up their Interactive TV offerings, and then gave the business to LBRT because MSFT doesn't have a product? Are these the ventures in which you're hoping for a 400% gain? Or are you thinking more of MSFT's investment in Apple Computer?

Anyway, we'll see on Oct 18.

john, << 30% in enterprise s/w >>

MSFT is doing their best to achieve this growth. In case some of you haven't looked closely at MSFT's Enterprise Server products I summarize them below. These products should complement Windows 2000 nicely. The following is the .Net Line of Enterprise Server products launched one week ago:

SQL Server 2000 - The complete database and analysis solution for rapidly delivering scalable Web applications

Exchange 2000 - Reliable, easy to manage messaging and collaboration solution for bringing users and knowledge together

Application Center 2000 - The deployment and management tool for high-availability Web applications built on Windows 2000

Commerce Server 2000 - The solution for quickly building an effective online business

BizTalk Server 2000 - Orchestrate business processes and Web services within and between organizations

Internet Security & Acceleration Server 2000 - Integrated firewall and Web cache server to make the Web-enabled enterprise safer, faster, and more manageable

Host Integration Server 2000 - Integration components for host systems

Mobile Information Server 2001 - The reliable and scalable platform for wireless solutions that brings mobile users and information together

This is not just a PC software company.
