The gullible may have gotten the impression Gore won, but if that's the case he did it by lying every time he opened his mouth:

BTW, Neither Matthews nor Buckle (neither of whom are gullible)thought that Gore winning the debate was good thing. Matthews goes on and on about how disgusted he is with both Gore and Clinton.

<<These two are diehard conservatives too!.........>>

For the record Chris Matthews is a Democrat who worked for Jimmy Carter. Albeit a Democrat who thought Clinton's actions constituted "high crimes and misdemeanors." He is hardly conservative.

David: I did not catch Buckley on "Hardball." It does surprise me that he declared Gore the debate winner. Buckley is a debate pro. I recall about 20 years ago he would stage first-class debates on his television show. He would line up cracker-jack experts on each side, then go at it in front of a large crowd of college students.
When the debate ended, a winning team would be declared and everyone would shake hands and retire to the bar.

The most intense criticism of Bush that I have seen has centered on his ducking the abortion pill question. He needs to be up front with the American people on this most important question.

davidcarasick: re "Hardball" last night:

Did you catch Christopher Hitchens, one of the last guests? Said he was with Vanity Fair, but he writes and appears for many other media ... here's a link with some of his recent work and other info:

4journalism.4anything.com

What a riot! I'm looking for a transcript of his remarks ... he's become one I'm definitely going to follow through the remainder of this spectacle.

Will post it if I can find.

Eloquently and hilariously made the point that the media, in their own sensitivity about image of appearing to be biased, are reluctant to state the obvious -- that the guy is almost pitifully ignorant ... and shown to be so during that debate.
