Snake: You make a valid point, but last night's debate winner (according to William F. Buckley and Peggy Noonan) believes that the "lock-box" approach is what America needs. My thinking is I don't want anything to happen to my Social Security money ... emphasis on the word "security." If I want to play the market, I can use my 401(k) money for that purpose. If I feel lucky, I can run 25 miles down the road to the riverboat casino. I want this money "lock-boxed" in the biggest vault at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, where even Goldfinger can't get at it.
