I think rather than saying the words have no meaning- you could say they have the meaning each believer gives them. The fact that believers continually fight over what they mean, and the fact that belief has changed a GREAT deal over time, proves that no believers yet have hit on a meaning that is universally correct or accepted. Such misunderstandings also prove that the book is a failure IF it was intended to be universally understood in any particular way- or to say it a different way, if the all powerful omniscient God meant this book as a clear statement of his position that all believers could agree on, he failed miserably AND since he is omniscient and all powerful, just how could that be? Much easier to make a case for the Devil (or a minor demon- if you prefer, Solon) writing the Bible.
