This is how I use it. I look at it to tell me how strong a trend has become, but never use it to enter/exit. When it's dropping, I think in terms of range contraction. I use other methods to get the entry/exit points.

This is the perfect ADX chart here. ADX got to 60 on the big downtrend from Sept 1. At 60, we became careful, since we knew the move was extended to the downside. Shortly thereafter, it entered into a trading range, and the ADX has dropped along the way, now to 14, confirming the range contraction. From low ADX conditions, we can expect a new trend to emerge.
