Oil dips below $30 a barrel
Brent crude slumps as bidders line up
for U.S. strategic reserves
October 5, 2000: 3:46 a.m. ET

LONDON (CNNfn) - Benchmark oil futures crashed below the $30 per barrel
level in early electronic trade in London Thursday, as traders geared up for the
release of some of the U.S. strategic oil reserve.

Brent crude for November delivery slumped 62 cents to $29.90 on London's
International Petroleum Exchange, mirroring overnight moves in Asia. The slide
came after 11 companies signed up with the U.S. government to release up to
30 million barrels from U.S. stocks.

The U.S. agreed to release oil in a bid to take the steam out of crude prices,
which have consistently traded around 10-year highs in recent weeks.
Consumers have felt the pinch of high prices at the pump, leading to
widespread protests across the globe. NOW THAT"S WHAT I CALL POSITIVE RESULTS TO U.S. INTERVENTION BY CLINTON/GORE.

No, he disapproves of Clinton and his defenders, which merely means he is an honest man. Unless you think that having integrity and being a liberal are absolutely incompatible, of course........
