gv..."michael dell"

concur with your assessment. dell was launched into the spotlight with the belief that he accomplished that which was never accomplished before. he was lauded as the creator of a new type of business model, that was perceived as perfect. the business model was copied from a thirty year old model...his corporate philosophy no different then what was written about in the early eighties.

all in all, msd took existing models, refined them and applied them to a manufacturing sector that was less then efficient. the growth came in the best of times...

the larger the model grows, the more difficult it is to maintain in an impeccable manner the down stream supply chain. i posted this eighteen months ago, but as always no one could grasp this concept. when the model is of such a mass as dell is, they no longer have the finite control over their fate. this was demonstrated in q3/q4 1999.

my concern is the comments on maintaining/growing profitability via falling component prices.....considering they had no game plan on rising prices and shortages, what guarantee or knowledge does dell have of falling prices?

good luck....ed a.
