RESEARCH ALERT-ABN AMRO cuts Micron price target
NEW YORK, Oct 5 (Reuters) - ABN AMRO said on Thursday it had cut its 12-month price target for semiconductor maker Micron Technology Inc. (NYSE:MU - news) to $100 from $120.

In a research note, analyst David Wu said:

--he sees a normal pick up in demand for the fourth quarter from original equipment makers, but says prices are ``bottoming out at a lower level'' than he expected.

--but sees prices recover as original equipment makers' inventory declines.

Micron's shares closed at $46-15/16 on the New York stock exchange on Wednesday.

Dearest Daniel Niles:

Ah Dan, I caught your latest recommendation and target price for MU. Any chance you might share your computer "model" arithmetic with us to back this up? I have to admit to a bit of anxiety when you don't provide at least SOME form of rationale, particularly after Ms. Morgensen of the N.Y. Times made mince meat of you,.... er,.... that is,.... chastised you a year or so ago for not having read the quarterly report as a prelude to your issuance of an extremely bullish commentary on Micron.

On another front Dan, might you have some comments on the company's relatively worrisome "guidance"? Their representatives didn't seem to be quite as bullish as you are.

Finally Dan, it would help if you would also comment on your recent,...... how shall I put it,......... "faux pas",... with respect to a slightly mis-timed bullish recommendation on Intel, particularly when your table-pounding buy of the morning was followed within hours by an Intel Mia Culpa that saw the stock do a Mount Helen on us. I know this might seem unkind but the old reputation isn't quite what it used to be, hence the masses can't be counted upon to just blindly act on your utterances as in the past.

Your faithful and devoted disciple,
Earlie
