Interesting article at TSC about challenges to AFFX:

thestreet.com

Personally I wish everyone would just cross-license and get on with the science.

Note the comment by Lander that there are only 40k genes. (at least 75k of which have already been patented <g>)

At a conservative million bucks a gene, that drops the value of the genome to a mere 40 billion. No wait, if there are fewer, each one must be more valuable, right? And if each gene produces multiple proteins, we should be able to get more than a million for a gene (and more than one patent) ... And how about if we start patenting the interactions between genes? There are n**2 of those, even if we only worry about pairwise interactions. And what about protein/protein interactions?

Yes, indeed, son/daughter, you should become a patent lawyer. <g>

Peter, on Oct 23, PRCS will unlock 30MM shares. There has been a lot of action with the hype artists on the yahoo board lately. This might be a good case study on the impact of unlocks. PRCS has such a strong pipeline that I feel that someone is trying to get shares on the cheap. But I could be wrong. Perhaps the institutions are lining up for this one and trying to buy on the cheap. Lets watch it. Mark
