Binx,

Simple Technology is becoming little more than a Hitachi reseller.

Clearly they are buying the flash memory from them.
Nobody else in the business is making MLC "AND" flash
at this time (to my knowledge). I still wonder if this
is how Hitachi is side-stepping CompactFlash assembly
patents for products ending up eventually for sale in the U.S.

Here is a relevant Hitachi link...

sdl.hitachi.co.jp

As I reported earlier, Simple indicated to me that they are
paying royalties to SanDisk via the relationship with Hitachi.
These appear to be invisible "pass through" royalties that are
included in raw material costs charged by Hitachi to Simple...

From your Simple Technology post...

"[Simple Technology's...] Flash Disk Module technology uses a
multi-level 'AND' cell based technology utilizing two bits per cell.
"

I hope the cross-licensing agreement with Hitachi was fruitful.
The intellectual properties not exhanged in the agreement are hopefully
related to the CompactFlash assembly patents covered by '987
and like intellectual properties covering MMC.

Here is my another take on the situation and some final comments and conjecture...
