Trading arms for hostages is heavier, more sinister and very much international in scale. In fact, one could reasonably argue Iran-contra undermined the constitutional authority of the United States. You're lucky that Democrats are not as hemorroidial as are the Republicans when it comes to the dirty tactic of attempting to destroy or smear the office of the presidency. It could have been far worse for Nixon, and Reagan got off light.
