flapjack, you will certainly get your social security if all the cards fall right. However, if you die before 62 you will receive zero. The money is only available in incremental payments over your lifetime. If you get your first social security check and drop dead the next day the ball game is over. Your wife might get something if she is of the right age (over 62) but it is entirely possible the flapjacks will never receive anything from social security. In fact, I think one thing that happened when FDR got social security started it was sort of rare anyone lived much over 65. Now the lifespan is much longer which creates a problem. When it started it took about 35 workers to support one social security recipient. It is now about 3 to 1. Soon you may very well be having to support one of us all by yourself.
