Phoenix quick definition: A stock which has a chart pattern which clearly demonstrates that it is trending higher during the same 10 day, 20 day or 30 period where the index to which the stock belongs is trending lower.

In other words, we couldn't call a Dow stock a Phoenix, because it rose while the Naz sold off. And 10 days or less of this pattern is a Baby Phoenix, whereas 30 days of this pattern is a Grand Daddy Phoenix.

Hope that helps clarify things some.

Rande Is and JLS: Phoenix stocks? See below.

I'll bet that energy stocks would not be the first thing to pop into your cranium, but the New Era energy stocks which are going to thrive on deregulation have bucked the NASDAQ trend over past 4-6 weeks. Specifically: CPN(19%), AES(6%),
NRG(20%), DUK(19%) and DYN(44%).

Might want to track new IPO, Southern Energy(SOE), the latest of the New Era energy stocks. Solid company, solid profits, international operator. Stock is retracing its opening day pop, will be a nice buy sometime in the next 1-2 weeks.
