yes, i realize that. but OWC specifically cited the fact that weak demand in addition to the asbestos liabilities was what finally forced their hand. originally they expected to survive the asbestos thing.

on a more general note, i have a feeling that all that money the Fed keeps pumping in seems to be going up in smoke in the stock market. loans for securities at the banks rose sharply over the past two months...much of that is now in money heaven. an interesting new experience...

The defense costs alone are running hundreds of thousands of dollars per MONTH for even the smaller asbestos defendants. It's quite the cottage industry - a phalanx of lawyers (one for each of several defendants) sitting around in multi-day depositions reading pre-formatted questions. Lots of paper shuffling too.

After the insurance runs out...Well, we've now seen what happens after the insurance runs out.
