What concerns me is that those 3.6 million shorts were placed prior to the earnings warning.

Someone at ALLR knew something and passed this information onto people within the investment community. IMHFO

From the latest quarterly:

SHARES OUTSTANDING AT JULY 31, 2000
-------------- -----------------------------------
Common Stock, $.01 par value............... 27,247,402

The 4 million shares you refer to are shares reserved under the company stock option plan. The strike price on these options is around $35 so they are way out of the money and have not been added to the float. So subtract 4 million from your number. I would also subtract the 3.6 million shorts because in all liklihood they have covered as they were in place prior to the earnings warning.
