Scumbria, RE:"My comment was that smart rich people don't pay taxes." At best they are defering income. OTOH, simplified tax code would cure the few exceptions. It's not just the "smart" "rich" who avoid taxes. There is a lot of barter and unreported exchanges that occur at flea markets for example, tips, drug deals etc.. Hard to tap it all even if you go to a sales tax...the governments only hope is catch it at some point when the money changes hands. My point is to make it simple, therefore easier to enforce compliance. Jim
