What do you really know about caste system? how old was the girl? why was girl left alone, if she was young? If the girl was old enough, how come owner let pit bulls loose, without consequences? How come such pit bulls are legal which are the least friendliest of the breed? What kind of neighbourhood was it? Cannot a crowd be formed immediately and get the dogs under control while police and animal control are being notified? There are zillions of questions that I can ask before justifying a gun. No one in right frame of mind would want any harm done to the girl. The guy executed his civic duty perfectly to save the girl - but with an illegal gun. Now as a next course of action, if the guy does not have a shady past, he deserves all the leniency he can get. Certainly such unfortunate incident should not become a rallying point for illegal guns.
