<<Gee, Rambi, I didn't realize little ol' George was looking to Jim Lehrer for a solution to stop the runaway train known as Al Gore. Gimme a break.>>

Lehrer was the moderator wasn't he? Just because gore wanted to act like a butt head wasn't Bushes fault.

George was playing a better game - Rope-a-dope. Al "big whopper" Gore fell for it and spewed at least 32 big lies in 90 minutes.

Why didn't George roll up his sleeves and play the same game?

I think-- and this is in retrospect- that GW's behavior served him better. I have heard NOTHING good about Gore's personality as shown in the debate among the many women I know and since he had so recently increased his popularity with women--previously GW's area!- to come across as the worst kind of aggressive, impatient, condescending male, a type that is anathema to any woman with a lick of sense, was a mistake. Time will tell.

I guess we'll just have to disagree about Lehrer's role. GW finally DID give in and start his own interruptions when he realized Lehrer was ineffectual.
In the oil fields, you may want Bruce Willis and his boys, but in the presidency I prefer someone who is able to listen, negotiate, facilitate- this is not weakness. It's diplomacy. ANd it takes a secure, intelligent, rational, honest man-- I don't know that we have that choice, frankly.

That's a personal opinion, as is yours.
