I find it interesting that everybody assumes that many parents would take their kids out of the public schools. That just tells me that even those who say they support "public education" have very little confidence in its ability to compete and survive.

I think most public schools would improve greatly if they faced competition and had to fight for their survival. Just look at many US corporations that were fat and inefficient in the 70s, but when the foreign competition arrived, after a transition in the mid 80s, they become the worlds most efficient and profitable. They met the challenge.
