Well, no one approach is a solution to all the ailments of this mother Earth. <g> Try mine and see if you'll be more efficient in your trading... add if you must. If you're trading up and down, you would naturally go short after you sold your long, and vice versa... but in cases where you just sold because you lost your read on that stock momentarily... you'll still have 4 to fight with, up or down.

If your stock loses the volatility that you're accustomed to, dump it and get another one. It's amazing how you can almost anticipate the stock's movement given a set of conditions, after a while...

PS: Most of our failures stem from the fact that we're envious about another stock's movement... the question is: can you play that stock as well as you can yours?
