Did anyone note in the debate when Algore asked "not to be judged by the scandals but by what we have achieved"?

It was the caption under smiling Al's face in the morning paper. What struck me about it was 1) that it is clearly the "ends justify the means," and 2) no one noticed it.

Put another way, we've just been through 8 years of a presidential power trip where the result (policies, staying in office) has justified the means (lying, perjury, character assassination). Now we're in two elections where the result (getting Al and Hillary elected) justifies the means (pandering to the northeast vote, the release of the SPR). I don't recall Reagan pulling this stuff when George Sr. was running, and I don't believe Eisenhower did anything at all when Nixon was in a tight race with Kennedy. It was considered "unpresidential." Now we have Algore's word that the ends will justify the means, probably any means, once he's in office.

Does anyone find this at all controversial, or are we all numb to this kind of thing?

I love to lurk!

Well, that's not permitted here...

If you lurk, you have to participate....<VBG>

Besides, we need some new blood, and some new perspectives on what is important in this election.
