For me, there are two other reasons why demand for larger cards will be limited compared to small - medium size (these being relative terms).

1) Sticker shock. Over time, I might pay several hundred dollars for flash, but its easier to do that a bit at a time rather than in one go, even if its cheaper to buy bigger sizes (which it doesnt appear to be).
2) Eggs in one basket syndrome. I'd rather spread my vacation/whatever pictures over 3 or 4 cards than 1.

And 3*, one card is not as versatile as several cards with the same total storage. One card goes in one device. Several cards, go in my MP3, PDA, camera, etc, at the same time.

TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--United Microelectronics Corp.'s (2303.TW) September sales jumped to NT$10.32 billion (US$1=NT$31.296) from NT$2.22 billion the previous year, Taiwan's No. 2 chipmaker said on Friday. Last month's figure includes earnings from four affiliates that UMC merged at the beginning of the year. Accumulated sales for the first nine months of the year totaled NT$73.23 billion, up 254% from NT$20.70 billion during the same period in 1999.
