While perhaps plausible, judging from the various people I talk to across the country, I don't think these numbers mean all that much yet - the race is really too fluid in a lot of the states assigned to one camp or the other. There are a significant number of people in the middle who honestly don't feel they have a clear choice - truly undecided - but a significant fraction of those who say they support one side or the other are not all that enthusiastic about "their" candidate; they sort of don't like the other guy, but with no great fervor (leave aside the partisans on this board). I can't get a feel for what will become the deciding factor in people's minds in this race. Without a dominant issue (publicly perceived - I think the makeup of the Supreme Court is such an issue but that people simply aren't aware of it), I expect the state of the economy to determine the winner. Advantage: Gore.
