While the Iraqi leader was raging against Israel - which he claimed he would destroy if given adjacent territory" news.bbc.co.uk "The United States says Russia is continuing to help Iran develop its nuclear capability" news.bbc.co.uk So Iran will nuke Israel and Saddam will send scuds full of nerve gas. Meanwhile, half a million catapults will pound Israel with extra hard rock. This situation looks to be about as bad as it ever has. The feeling is probly no stronger but the actual ability of arab states to hurt Israel now exists. With Syria now also sending flights into Iraq against UN sanctions, it looks like there are too many states involved for the UN/US to be able to use military or economic sanctions. Maybe Israel will have to back down this time. Whatever, I'm buying some Jerry cans and stocking up on gas!

I don't really want to quarrel with you, JDN, and especially not in this forum. We do seem to disagree pretty severely on what a "reasonable" balance with respect to the environment is, and on our political views generally. Look at it this way -- nobody's trying to outlaw car wax, despite all those nasty volatile hydrocarbons. <g> Charles Tutt (TM)

Straight-up: Bruce Babbit is the best (read: the best) Sec'y Interior this country has ever had (ever). --- Maybe he's not been a friend to the Off-Roading special interest. It sounds like 'the Great Outdoors' (and vehicle access to it) are more important to you than 'the environment'. Do you stiffen when you read the words "the environment" JDN? Is that a political buzzword for "no Jeep trails"? What is the 'Audobon Society'? Is tha where 'Audibon' meets the 'Autoban'? --- Frankly, the more I read your reasons for voting for George W, the closer I get to not just *voting for Al Gore. The closer I get to changing my political affliliation. --- I'm realizing the Republican party has practically sealed itself off as the political party of the most immediate (hand to mouth) 'dollar' interests and narrow-minded white guys. In it's old age, it's become a caricature of itself. -JCJ
