Putting The Presidential Candidates On The Record On Scouting

By a razor-thin 5 to 4 decision, the United States Supreme Court recently upheld the right of the
Boy Scouts to remove an openly homosexual Scoutmaster. The shift of a single vote would have
effectively destroyed this venerable institution that for nearly a century has been molding boys into
good citizens and responsible adults. The next president may name as many as three new
Justices to the Court, putting the fate of Scouting directly in his hands.

The position of the American Civil Rights Union is that the American people deserve to know
clearly and unequivocally whether the major candidates support this Supreme Court decision. It is
also our position that the televised debates are the best places for them to answer this question.
