Semi-official: AMD European sales jump
By: Drew Cullen
Posted: 06/10/2000 at 12:10 GMT

Anecdotal evidence about AMD's market share growth in Europe is turning into
hard fact.

The company took 12 per cent of European microprocessor sales in July and
August, compared with 8 per cent for the same period last year, according to
Market research firm GfK. Intel, by contrast, accounted for 84 per cent of the
market in July and August, against 88 per cent for the same period in 1999.
Somewhere in the 2000 figures, VIA must be lurking.

On September 21, Intel issued a profit warning in which it blamed weak PC
demand in Europe for failing to meet forecasts.

Intel is overwhelmingly still the market leader in Europe, and its grip is even tighter
in the US, but a loss in market share than weak demand per sedoes appear to be a
more convincing explanation.

Last week, German retail chain PC-Spezialist reported a "massive shift in demand"
away from Intel towards AMD against a background of increased PC sales.

AMD's Q3 results are due Wednesday, 11 October. ®

re"Ride the 2000 wave"

If I rode your wave I'd be scratching a broke ass right about now. Do some thinking instead of ranting. You've been looking for a good stock analyst. Platinum Equities called the SELL on MSFT last Jan. What a super call. I have 2 broker analyst I respected for years, now there is a 3rd. As for the Oct massacre, you were warned. I am looking for buy opportunities, shopping time is near, but not today. T is taking a hit today. JH
