i always like to remind people whenever i see trouble in paradise mentioned, that some iomega techs will tell you that the gibson utility actually causes problems with disks and drives. #reply-13988391 i stopped using it myself.

tc, thanks for the link. I went there out of curiosity.
The only calendar date visible was a 1998 copyright notice.
The CoD problem used to be talked about often, but I understand Iomega has much improved their drives' susceptibility to it and has also improved their own response to customer problems. Since my USB Zip is a year old and has no problems I cannot fix by rebooting, I will leave well enough alone. It is, however, a good idea to have TWO backup Zip disks for data you cannot afford to lose.

PS: In my experience Zip disks are MUCH more reliable than 1.44MB floppies.
