Meathead, Well, AMD has certainly done a lot better by it's R&D over the past 7 years than Intel.
Look at the last 7 years at intel~~ Crash after Crash after crash. The only thing that kept them alive was ongoing product enhancement of their main cash cows.
There has been precious little good new stuff from them.
AMD has done a lot better in rceent years thay have come from way back to the point where they lead on most fronts, save volume, and are increasing their volume.
Now intel has some new stuff in the past 7, but not much, and it does indeed seem as if they hav wasted their R&D funds.
Remember in R&D quality and not quantity is paramount.
With 30 times as much Intel has fallen flat on it's nose...again and again.
Could it be that the corporate mind set oppresses the best kinds of minds in R&D?
Hard to say. most top end people are highly mobile these days and older companies lack the ability to grant options with the same gain ratio potential as the small startups. Result: People leave the older companies to join startups where they can get options that will go from $1 to $100.
At AMD and Intel any options in the past 6 months would have declined.
